Members of the LUNZ Hub, Lee-Ann Sutherland, Heiko Balzter and Christopher Lee attended the launch of public Consultation on a new strategic approach to managing land use in England. This ambitious new policy aims to give decision makers the data they need to protect our most productive agricultural land, boosting Britain’s food security in a time of global uncertainty and a changing climate.

The consultation document was published on January 31, and will be subject to public feedback until 25 April.

The Framework will be a priority for the Hub in 2025, specifically the England Team who will be supporting DEFRA with stakeholder engagement process.

In addition, the Topic Advisory Groups will contribute to the consultation process specific to their areas of expertise, in particular by identifying the foundational pieces of evidence and the most reliable critical datasets that the government should be used to support its decision.

The Soil Health and Carbon Dynamic TAG will also host a dedicated workshop on the Land Use Framework for England, focusing on the knowledge and evidence gaps around soil data, maps and classifications.
