Professor Sharon Huws

Prof Huws is an expert in Animal Science and Microbiology and also Director of Research for the School of Biological Sciences and the Instutute for Global Food Security at Queen’s University Belfast. Her research is focussed on ensuring a blanace between ruminant food security and planetary health, with over £10M of projects ongoing in this area at present. She chaired the Rumen MIcrobial Genomics Network for the Global Research Alliance in methane mitigation from 2013-2023 and is a Senior editor for the Journal Microbiome and Editor-in-chief for teh suster journal Animal Microbiome. She is also the 2023 recipient of the Sir John Hammond award for excellence in animal science in light of reducing climate change progression.
