Robin is a senior ecologist at the James Hutton Institute where he leads the Natural Resource theme in the Scottish Governments Strategic Research Programme. His own research focusses on understanding trophic cascades that result from changes in grazing management, assessing the impacts of upland management on biodiversity and the development of metrics to understand biodiversity change. He is a Visiting Professor at the University of Liverpool, an editor of Applied Vegetation Science, the Nordic Journal of Botany and Oikos. He is also a Chartered Ecologist and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management.
