Prof Pete Smith (FRS, FRSE) is Professor of Soils and Global Change at the University of Aberdeen, is Science Director of Scotland’s ClimateXChange and sits on Scotland’s First Minister’s Environment Council. He has contributed to global efforts to advance the science of land use to net zero, including Convening Lead Author roles for IPCC, IPBES and UNEP. In the UK he led projects to spatially model the potential for BECCS, soils, reforestation and other land based GGR options, and led research on land use decision-making tools used in the UK for NERC.
