Kenneth Loades
Project Lead and Group Lead for Soil Science and Mineralogy
James Hutton Institute
Kenneth is group lead for Soil Science and Mineralogy within the James Hutton Institute with his research spanning soil health and indicators, soil stabilisation, plant root mechanics, and soil physics. His research contributes to understanding the physical, chemical, and biological properties of soils, with particular attention to how land management practices influence soil structure and wider soil function.
His contributions help inform policy, guide agricultural best practices, and promote the sustainable use of soil as a vital natural asset. A core element of all his research is effective communication with those who can apply new knowledge in practice. He is committed to knowledge transfer and exchange where he previously represented soils and crops research within the Scottish Environment Food and Agricultural Research Institutions (SEFARI) Gateway.
