Harriet Fraser

PLACE Collective at the Centre for National Parks and Protected Areas, University of Cumbria

Harriet Fraser is a writer, poet and artist whose work focuses on rural landscapes, exploring and issues of interconnection, belonging and regeneration. Since 2011 she has collaborated with her partner, photographer Rob Fraser, in their practice ‘somewhere-nowhere’. Often joining multi-disciplinary teams where discussions may be dominated by science and statistics, they highlight diverse perspectives, complex value systems, and ‘data of the heart’. Their work contributes to the developing field of art and artists in landscape research, with recognitions including the Royal Geographical Society’s Cherry Kearton Medal and Award, and Annenberg Scholarships at the Principia College, Illinois. Harriet is a board member with the Foundation for Common Land, and a visiting research fellow at the University of Cumbria where her PhD research uses art and poetry in an enquiry into agency and action in landscape change. She is co-founder of the multi-artist PLACE (People, Land, Art, Culture, Ecology) Collective, based at the Centre for National Parks and Protected Areas at the University of Cumbria.
