Fiona Seaton

Quantitative Ecologist

UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology

Fiona works as a quantitative ecologist with a focus on statistical analysis to better understand the drivers of state and change of biodiversity and soil properties at a national scale. She leads the development and use of cutting edge statistical and mathematical methods to analyse field survey data and integrate with data from novel sources such as citizen science and DNA-based methods. Fiona’s work has led to many insights into the dynamics and drivers of plant, soil, and pollinator diversity within the UK. This includes evaluating the response of woodland flora to ash dieback and other drivers of woodland change across the last 50 years as part of the Bunce woodland survey, and analysis of plant and soil pH response to atmospheric deposition across the UK over forty years as part of the Countryside Survey.
