Professor Elizabeth Magowen

Prof Elizabeth Magowan is the Director of Sustainable Agri-Food Sciences (SAFSD) at the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) in Northern Ireland. Elizabeth’s expertise mainly aligns with livestock systems and their impact on the environment as well as mitigations to reduce that impact, while considering economic impacts. Elizabeth works closely with the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA), in Northern Ireland. Within AFBI she leads on the strategic partnerships between AFBI and QUB, CAFRE and leading industry stakeholders such as the developing ‘Sustainability body’. She is the current president of the British Society of Animal science and recently lead UK wide consortia of academics to deliver flagship reports for the Centre of Innovation and Excellence in Livestock (CIEL) which focused on Livestock and Net Zero across the UK.
