Unlocking Finance for Farm and Landscape Recovery in Wales

Unlocking Finance for Farm and Landscape Recovery in Wales

More than 90 representatives from farming, land management, finance, government, academia and the environmental sector came together in Newtown on 9 June for the LUNZ Wales event, Unlocking Finance for Farm and Landscape Recovery in Wales: Building Confidence, Capability & Collaboration.

The event explored one of the key challenges facing Wales: how to secure the investment needed to support resilient farm businesses, thriving landscapes and healthy ecosystems while delivering benefits for climate, nature, water and future generations.

Through keynote presentations, panel discussions, case studies and a lively Network Café, participants examined emerging opportunities in nature finance and blended funding models. Discussions highlighted the importance of building confidence and trust in new finance mechanisms, ensuring transparency and fairness, and developing approaches that work for the unique Welsh context.

A strong message emerged throughout the day: no single organisation or financial model can deliver the scale of change required. Instead, success will depend on collaboration between farmers, communities, government, investors, environmental organisations and businesses.

Networking was consistently highlighted as one of the most valuable aspects of the event, with participants welcoming the opportunity to build new relationships, share experiences and explore future partnerships. The event also showcased a wide range of innovative projects and landscape initiatives already underway across Wales.

The day concluded with optimism and a shared commitment to continue the conversation. Wales is well placed to build on its strengths of collaboration, community and long-term thinking to develop trusted and effective approaches to financing farm and landscape recovery.

LUNZ Wales would like to thank all speakers, contributors, partners and attendees who helped make the event such a success. The conversations started in Newtown have created valuable momentum, and we look forward to continuing this work together.
